THEO D

Theo D makes his home here in the Delta dividing his time between Clarksdale, Mississippi and Memphis, Tennessee.  In 2005, he moved to the USA and started playing the piano again. After encouragement from Clarksdale bluesman James “Super Chikan” Johnson, Theo D began performing locally in and around the Clarksdale area. Self-taught, Theo D plays simple, straight forward blues and boogie piano.

Although his parents wanted him to play classical guitar, he fell in love with what he calls the greatest American musical heritage to the world, the blues. In the early sixties, Theo taught himself to play blues on the old piano in the living room. Theo D “The Boogieman” would perform at parties anytime people wanted to hear him. He also became the (self-appointed) road manager of the popular local band, THE BATS, in Apeldoorn.

After finishing high school, Theo D moved in 1969 to Amsterdam to study law at the University of Amsterdam where he managed one of the Student Clubs and disc jockeyed.

In 1978 he began his International Trust Banking career living in St. Maarten, Switzerland and the USA, returning in 1996 to The Netherlands. Loving the blues and all its fruits, Theo D opened the first Rock & Blues Museum in The Netherlands in 1997, where he displayed his collection of music memorabilia acquired during his travels all over the world.  The museum was relocated to the USA in 2005, in Clarksdale, Mississippi. After 2 successful CDs, Theo recently released his his 3rd CD and is currently composing songs for a 4th CD.
